Mainis Department of Education will review bids next month for another four-year laptop computer lease for its schools. If no company wins, it will extend its current lease with Apple for 34,000 iBooks, according to an Associated Press report.
The AP piece noted that Education Commissioner Susan Gendron said the state will have to spend US$8 million annually to continue with Apple. However, if it switches to a competitor, the cost will rise to $10 million per year because the laptops will have to be replaced.
