· by Brad Gibson · News

WiebeTech has announced the Maxelerate, an external hard disk with a capacity up to 500 gigabytes, targeted to Mac mini users.

The Maxelerate boasts a disk read and write performance that is 30?ster than the drive that comes inside of the Mac mini. It uses a FireWire connection and is bootable as a startup disk.

Maxelerate sports daisy-chainable ports: three USB2 ports and three FireWire ports. It has an aluminum design with integral internal die cast heat sink and fan.

The drive is compatible with Mac OS X, Mac OS 9.x and Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP. Five configurations are available with prices ranging from $119.95 for a housing with no drive to $689.95 for the 500GB model. All models will ship September 6.
