Microsoft Updates Internet Explorer For Mac OS X & Classic

· by · News

Microsoft has released an update to Internet Explorer for both Mac OS X and Mac OS 8.1 through 9.x. Version 5.2.1 for Mac OS X includes some security "enhancements," while version 5.1.5 for Classic Mac OS includes security patches, and improved support for HTTP. From Microsoftis release pages:

This latest version — version 5.2.1 — provides all the latest security and performance enhancements for Internet Explorer 5 for Mac OS X. It also provides support for the new Quartz™ text smoothing feature provided in Mac OS X version 10.1.5 and later, so text on your screen is easier to read.

Note   Internet Explorer 5.2.1 for Mac OS X is not compatible with Mac OS 9.x or earlier. It requires features that are available only in Mac OS X. If you use Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x, you can download and install Internet Explorer for Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x.

The notes concerning Internet Explorer 5.1.5:

This latest version — version 5.1.5 — provides enhanced support for the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and resolves all security vulnerabilities in previous versions of Internet Explorer 5. This includes vulnerabilities that might have caused Internet Explorer to stop responding or caused a memory problem that compromised the security of the computer. For more information about these vulnerabilities, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-019.

Note   Internet Explorer 5.1.5 for Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x is available only in English. To install the latest French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, or Swedish version of Internet Explorer for Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x, download and install Internet Explorer 5.1.4.

You can find more information and download links for IE version 5.2.1 for Mac OS X, and IE 5.1.5 for Classic Mac OS at Microsoftis Mactopia Web site.
