Microsoft to Take On GarageBand

Microsoft may be working on a consumer-oriented music editing application, code-named Monaco, for Windows Vista. The application will be similar to Appleis GarageBand, but wonit be available for the Mac. According to Publish, Monaco will take advantage of features in Windows Vista and its Aero interface, and include special search algorithms for locating specific music clips.

There is no word on whether or not Microsoft will bundle Monaco with Windows Vista, offer it as a stand-alone product, or bundle it with the iPhoto-style application it is also supposedly developing.

Representatives from Microsoft are not commenting on Monaco.
