Moulin Rouge Soundtrack Uses Exabyte Backup

Exabyte Corporation has announced that the Academy Award nominated film Moulin Rougeis soundtrack was backed up on Exabyteis VXA-1 tape drives. The VXA-1 tape drives and cartridges are designed for secure backup of digital media. According to Exabyte:

Exabyte Corporation, a performance and value leader in tape backup systems, announced today that the award wining soundtrack to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainmentis motion picture Moulin Rouge was backed up and archived on Exabyteis VXA-1 tape drives and VXAtape cartridges.

Simon Leadley of Trackdown Music Services at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney was the supervising music editor for Moulin Rouge. He was directly responsible for editing and mixing the soundtrack for Moulin Rouge, and used VXA-1 tape drives to store more than two years worth of data from the blockbuster filmis musical soundtrack.

Moulin Rouge is currently nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture and Sound, as well as the winner of two BAFTA awards for Best Sound and Achievement in Film Music, and the 2001 Hollywood Film Festivalis Movie of the Year.

Trackdown Music Services recorded and edited the soundtrack using ProTools Systems and Apple PowerMac G4s, which were used with both Mezzo and Retrospect software to backup and restore soundtrack sessions from VXA-1 tape drives and media. VXA backup and archival allowed Trackdown to free space on their systems while preserving the ability to review and edit earlier sessions.
