Mozilla Previews Firefox 1.5 Beta

· by Brad Gibson · News

The Mozilla Foundation has released Firefox 1.5 Beta 1, a test version of its next generation Web browser.

Code named iDeer Parki, version 1.5 beta 1 is the first beta release of the next generation of the Firefox browser, to be released later this year. It is being made available to the Mozilla developer and testing community for compatibility testing and to solicit feedback.

However, it is not the final release of the Web browser, but has been made available for testing purposes only, with no end-user support. Mozilla is clearly letting it be known the browser could be buggy and that no direct end-user support will be available during the testing phase.

Version 1.5 offers an improved software update system, faster Back and Forward navigation, a feature for clearing private browsing data, drag-and-drop reordering of browser tabs, broader support for Web standards, including support for Scalable Vector Graphics, JavaScript 1.6a redesigned Options/Preferences window, and better popup blocking.

The next beta is scheduled for early October, while the final release expected by years end.
