Mozilla Releases FireFox 1.01 Browser Update

The Mozilla Foundation released late Thursday FireFox 1.01, an update to the free and popular open-source browser.

Version 1.0.1 is a security update and is recommended for all users, the organization said in a statement. The update brings improved stability, the display of International Domain Names from their native character sets into an ASCII string, and nine different security fixes.

As of February 16, the FireFox browser had been downloaded more than 25 million times. The non-profit organization has not released separate figures of the number of times the Macintosh version of the product has been downloaded.

Mozilla Foundation volunteers have translated the software into 28 different languages, including English, French, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, Catalan, and Portuguese, to name just a few.

Minimum requirements for FireFox 1.01 are Mac OS X 10.1.x, 10.2.x and later, a PowerPC G4 667MHz or greater, a G3 or G4-based Mac with 256 megabytes of memory or greater, and 72MB of hard drive space.
