Napster Client Updated, Old Versions Disabled

Napster has updated their Macintosh client to version 1.0b2. With the release of the new version, older versions of Napster are now unable to connect to the Napster servers. Users of older versions that attempt to use the service are greeted with a, "You must download a new version of Napster" type of error message. Along with a change in the underlying structure to help the music sharing service better comply with court orders, the new version includes a number of bug fixes and improved OS X compatibility. According to Napster:

System Requirements:

  • PowerPC Processor running MacOS 8.6 or greater.
  • CarbonLib 1.2.5 or greater.

  • Too many bug fixes to list.
  • New OS X style preferences.
  • Improved OS X support.
  • NOTE: Sharing does not work under OS X as of 10.0.4, so you should turn it off in preferences.
