Naval Battles, Will Smith, Terminator 3, & More

Happy Holidays to you all from all of us here at The Mac Observer.

Christmas, as any 5 year old will tell you, is a time for giving, to emphasize the notion of selflessness by sharing, not only with those you know and care about, but also with strangers. Often we think that these strangers must have some financial need that can be at least temporarily alleviated by donations of our hard earned dollar, and, often, that is the case, but we often neglect to give to those whose pockets may be deep and full but lack something else that can be just as life sustaining as soup to a poor man: kindness.

A simple kind act cost us nothing but a few seconds of our time, perhaps some minor effort, but the affect such acts have can be amazing. Smiles erupt on frowning faces, eyes widen and twinkle that were once dull and narrow, shuffling gaits take on more energy and purpose, and the people on the receiving end of your acts of kindness get a kick out of them too.

We hope that you and your family both give and receive many acts of kindness over the Holiday Season and throughout the coming year.

Now, on to the trailers.

The first Apple QuickTime Exclusive Movie Trailer weill be looking at is Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Donit let the unwieldy name fool you, this is one we think youill want to watch when it comes out next June. Russell Crowe plays Jack Aubrey, Captain of H.M.S Surprise, and he is in hot pursuit of privateers. His chase takes to exotic and strange new territory. If you are a fan of naval warfare movies that include swordplay then you are in for a treat. The trailer will have you wanting more.

Many of you may have only heard this phrase in old Bugs Bunny cartoons: "Come on, Seabiscuit!" The phrase refers to a horse that became popular during The Great Depression years (1935-1945) for winning a race when the odd were totally against it. In the upcoming movie, Seabiscuit, Tobey Macguire drops the Spider-Man costume to play the half-blind jockey, Red Pollard, who rides the horse that is destined to become a winner. Jeff Bridges and Chris Cooper (you may remember him as the father of the boy next door in American Beauty) appear as financial backer, Charles Howard, and horse trainer, Tom Smith. Based on a true story and a book written by Laura Hillenbrand, Seabiscuit looks like it will be another winner, this time at the box-office.

Back in 1995, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence teamed up to play two Miami detectives who bust a drug ring in Bad Boys. The action/comedy was a success and made both actors, Will Smith more so than Martin Lawrence, hot Hollywood commodities. 8 years and 7 movies later, the two reprise their roles as Mike Lowery (Smith) and Marcus Burnette (Lawrence) in Bad Boys II. Fans of the first movie will likely get a charge out of this one. Lots of explosions, fast cars, faster women, and rapid-fire punch lines should make this a fun romp. "Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?"

If you havenit checked out the trailer Terminator 3: the Rise of the Machines you might want to do so now, a new trailer have been added and it is way cool if you can forgive Schwarzeneggeris last line in the trailer (Groan!). You will definitely want to visit the Official Movie Site, lots of cool stuff there as well.

There also a new trailer for The Pianist, a movie about a Jewish pianist surviving the cruelties of WWII.

Other trailer to review are:

  • How To Lose A guy In 10 Days:Hereis a romantic comedy with a twist: A woman does all she can to catch a guy then force the guy to leave in 10 days all while the guy is trying to win a bet that he can make the woman fall in love with him. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey star as the anti-couple in this movie where even the trailer can get you to laugh. Should be a good one.
  • Dumb and Dumberer: Ok, Dumb and Dumber was, well, dumb, but it starred Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as the pair of idiots who were the main characters. Dumb and Dumberer is billed as a prequel to Dumb and Dumber and it doesnit star Carrey or Daniels but Eric Christian Olsen and newcomer Derek Richardson. The teaser trailer wisely obscures this fact by not showing any of the actual movie. In fact, thereis not a lot about the teaser that would make you want to watch the movie beyond satisfying mild curiosity.

Thatis it. Now go out there and be kind to each other. Happy Holidays!
