New AOL For X Beta Available, Final Release Draws Near

June 24th, 2001 at 3:00 PM - News by Kyle D\'Addario

AOL has released yet another beta version of the AOL client for OS X. Version 7B includes a new People Connection feature while addressing a number of stability, interface, and performance issues related with earlier versions. According to a letter sent to AOL Beta testers this weekend:

Dear Testers:

We are proud to announce AOL for Mac OS X 7B and the new People Connection Search!

A new build of the AOL for Mac OS X software is now available at Keyword: Beta. Not only does the AOL for Mac OS X 7B software specifically address TCP connectivity issues in the AOL for Mac OS X 6c software, it fixes a few other problems as well. Please be sure to read the Known Issues for more details on what was changed and fixed.

Stop by Keyword: Beta and download your copy of the new build of the AOL for Mac OS X software today. As always, let us know what you find. If you still have any difficulties connecting to the AOL service via TCP, be sure to let us know and please provide as much information about your configuration as possible. If you encounter problems dialing in to the AOL service via modem, you may need to have the AOL software re-detect your modem. For instructions on how to do this please follow the steps listed in the Install Notes page located in the AOL for Mac OS X Beta area at Keyword: Beta.

Please use this new revision of the AOL software as much as possible. Weire very close to having a final version, and we need as much testing as you can provide.

Also, we are pleased to announce a new search enhancement to AOLis People Connection feature. People Connection Search is ready for your Beta testing expertise!

The People Connection Search feature makes it easy for you to find the people and communities who share your same interests. Find message boards, chats, home pages and more, all relating to your topic of interest. As an added bonus for our Beta testers, you will be able to vote on whether the new People Connection Search feature uses a tabbed or non-tabbed interface. Which one do you like better? Be sure to let us know in the People Connection Search Beta message boards!

Please visit Keyword: Beta and select the People Connection Search Beta link for more information and to access the exciting new search features being tested for People Connection on the AOL service.

Thank you for testing,
The Mac Beta Team
