August Software is now shipping Open Database Connectivity support for Darwin 1.4.1 PowerMac kernel. The ODBC Software Development Kit for Darwin is designed to allow users the ability to port UNIX/LINUX apps to Macs. According to August Software:

August Software today announced the delivery of Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) support for Apple Computeris Darwin V1.4.1 PowerMac kernel. Darwin 1.4.1 is the high-performance UNIX core of Mac OS/X 10.1, Mac OS/X Server 10.1 and the new GNU-Darwin operating system.

Todayis delivery of a complete ODBC Software Development Kit for Darwin enables existing UNIX and LINUX database applications to be quickly ported to the Mac without requiring extensive Mac-specific Carbon programming.

August Softwareis ODBC SDK eliminates the need for per-desktop ODBC control panels and drivers on Macintosh, Windows and LINUX platforms. In concert with ODBC Router, ODBC SDK developers are provided with the tools needed to build cross-platform applications and web services that can access virtually any SQL database system (MS-Access, ORACLE, SYBASE, Pick, DB/2, Rdb/VMS and many others).

You can find more information about the ODBC Software Development Kit for Darwin at the August Software Web site. The ODBC Software Development Kit for Darwin is available freeware.
