· by Brad Gibson · News

Ranchero Software announced Thursday NetNewsWire 2.0, a major update to its RSS and Atom newsreader for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

New features of the release include a tabbed browser to read pages while staying in the same window, the ability to search news items with a standard Apple search widget, download podcasts and enclosures, the ability to send podcasts to iTunes with your choice of genre and playlist, a flagged items feature that lets you mark items flag to keep forever or until you unflag them, syncing subscriptions, news item status, and even browser tabs between two or more computers, and more.

Its developers said version 2.0 has been ?streamlined" by the removal of its Weblog editing capabilities. Now those features are now part of a separate application called MarsEdit, which supports spell-checking, drafts, multiple windows, and AppleScript. MarsEdit retails for US$24.95. It comes free with registered copies of NetNewsWire 1.x.

NetNewsWire 2.0 retails for $24.95 for a single-user license and $19.95 per person for a multi-user license. This update is free to licensed users of NetNewsWire version 1.0 of newer.
