Remembering 1984 With Steve Jobs & The Entire Macintosh Development Team (With Pics)
February 22nd, 2001 at 2:00 PM - News by Bryan Chaffin
This is our series of stories that looks back in the murky depths of the past at the beginning of the personal computing age. The ad scans have continued to pour in, and this week we are bringing you five pictures from the first issue of Macworld Magazine. We have some great images that include scans of the cover, the table of contents, a version of the cover image without the text, and a remarkable image of the original Macintosh development team.
Richard Hallmark sent us scans of the cover and the table of contents. The cover is a great picture of Steve Jobs standing over three of the original Mac (128k) units. We have another version of that image below as well. Note that Mr. Jobs is in a suit, something that made a lot of Mac fans look up when he appeared in a suit during his MACWORLD Tokyo Expo keynote address. The Table of Contents is very interesting from the standpoint of seeing what was covered in this issue. No one really knew what to make of the Macintosh when it was first released, and these scans somewhat reflect that. A Tour of the Desktop, A Mouse in the Hand, Inside the Mac, Investing with Multiplan, Tips for Mac Writers, Open Windows; these are just some of the topics in this first issue. Pretty darned cool.

Matt A. Johnson sent us a scan of the group shot of the Macintosh development team. Steve Jobs is in the front holding a Mac, there is a banner of the original Mac logo. According to Matt:
I heard you were looking for old Apple advertisements. Hereis one from the inside of the first issue of MacWorld magazine, January 1984. It features, allegedly, the entire Macintosh development team. You can probably recognize a few faces in the crowd. The image of Steve is from the cover of the first issue of Macworld magazine. The original cover looked just the same, aside from the Macworld logo and a few headlines.

Thanks to Matt A. Johnson and Richard Hallmark for these great images from 1984! If you have an old Apple ad for the Mac (or Mac clones), the Apple ][ (or clones), the Lisa, or any other Apple product, scan them in and send them to us, so that we can share them with other Mac fans.
