Remote Buddy Expands Apple Remote's Uses

German company IOSPIRIT GmbH on Friday introduced the fourth Beta of Remote Buddy, which enables users to employ their Apple Remotes with software other than Front Row, which encompasses iTunes audio and video, iPhoto, DVD Player, and content from the QuickTime Web site.

Remote Buddy controls other applications through plug-ins that IOSPIRIT calls Behaviors. With this new Beta, the software now includes Behaviors for iTunes, Keynote 3, PowerPoint, Photo Booth, QuickTime Player, EyeTV 2, DVD Player, VLC Media Player, Real Player, Adobe Reader, Acrobat Pro, CoverFlow, Quinn, GarageBand, NetNewsWire, MPlayer OSX, Exposé, and others.

The new version also adds a Behavior Construction Kit that enables easier Behavior creation, global mapping for remote controls, optional emulation of two more button states, and various performance improvements and bug fixes. Pricing is US$12.70 and Mac OS X v10.4.6 is required. IOSPIRIT expects the final version to sell for $19. The application is a Universal Binary
