Seagate recently announced that it is now shipping the Momentus, a 2.5-inch, 160GB hard drive geared towards laptop users. The drive is available in speeds ranging from 4200RPM, up to 7200RPM, and uses a new technology to store data perpendicular to the drive platters, packing more information into a smaller space. Most drives store data horizontally.
The Momentus uses an Ultra ATA/100 interface, and models with the faster Serial ATA interface will ship later this year. Pricing information is not yet available.
