Telestream’s Flip4Mac 2.1.1 Released

· by · News

Telestream released Flip4Mac version 2.1.1 on Thursday. This version adds support for Windows Media 9 Advanced Profile, VC-1, and other improvements.

Previously, Flip4Mac WMV Studio Pro and Pro HD allowed users to create Windows Media 9 Advanced profiles. The Flip4Mac plug-in for Mac OS X now adds the ability to playback the advanced profiles.

In addition, "two-pass VBR encoding enhancements provide improved output results and remove an intermittent green flash issue. Improved MPEG-4 playback enhances WMV support for highly compressed media applications like digital cameras. Additional enhancements include improved ASX handling, improved installation support when using Apple Remote Desktop," the announcement said.

Flip4Mac is a family of QuickTime components. The most basic mode is a plug-in that allows Mac OS X to view WMV files via QuickTime. This is especially useful for sites, like CNN, that only support WMV videos. The basic plug-in is Intel and PPC compatibile and requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later. There is a Pro version which allows editing, priced at US$29.95, but the plug-in for viewing only is free.
