The Iconfactory has released a new utility for Mac users called DownloadCheck. DownloadCheck is designed to analyze whether a download is actually an MP3Concept Trojan horse to prevent computer exploitation. According to The Iconfactory:
The Iconfactoryis veteran programmer, Craig Hockenberry has written a new freeware utility that checks for applications in useris Downloads folder. It was created in response to the MP3Concept Trojan horse release of April 2004. Although its highly unlikely Mac users will encounter a MP3 or other document type masquerading as an application, it is best to be prepared.
DownloadCheck was released as a deterrent for anyone who might consider writing an exploit of this type. We hope that weill never need to use it.
You can find more information about the DownloadCheck release at the Icon Factory Web site. DownloadCheck is available as freeware.
