TidBITS Releases New Book For Setting Up Panther Networks

· by Mike Washlesky · News

TidBITS Electronic Publishing has released a new book titled: "Take Control of Sharing Files in Panther". The book, written by Glenn Fleishman, offers step-by-step instructions on setting up a secure Panther based network. According to TidBITS Electronic Publishing:

TidBITS Electronic Publishing has released Glenn Fleishmanis "Take Control of Sharing Files in Panther," an electronic book that explains exactly how to set up a Macintosh as a secure network file server using AppleShare, Samba, FTP, the Web, and WebDAV.

For each protocol, Glenn provides detailed instructions, tips on real-world usage, and ways of improving security beyond the defaults. Serving files is only half the battle, though, and Glennis ebook helps users connect to shared volumes efficiently from Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, and Windows XP. Readers will also learn important differences between traditional hard-mounted servers and new-in-Panther soft-mounted servers, plus find multiple handy (and non-obvious) techniques for sharing media in iTunes and iPhoto.

You can find more information about the "Take Control of Sharing Files in Panther" release at the TidBITS Electronic Publishing Web site. The PDF based book is available for US$10.00.
