Trojan Horse for BlackBerry Developed

A proof of concept Trojan horse malware application for the BlackBerry portable email device has been developed. InfoWorld reports that security research specialist Jesse DiAguanno demonstrated his code for the BlackBerry at the Defcon conference for hackers that ran from August 4 through August 6.

Mr. demonstrated the Trojan horse, which masquerades as a tic-tac-toe game, to show that companies need to look beyond their Macs and PCs, and consider the security risks of handheld devices, too. Research in Motion, the BlackBerry maker, has already released white papers describing how to protect BlackBerry servers from the attack.

The code for the Trojan horse will not be released, but the code for a second application used in the demonstration, called BBProxy, will.
