Volitans SMART Utility 1.0.2 Improves Logging

· by · News

Volitans Software released version 1.0.2 of their SMART disk utility on Friday. The new version makes sure that all message are sent to the SMART log and adds additional debugging messages.

The SMART Utility exploits the Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) system built into hard drives by their manufacturers to report on various measurements (called attributes) of a hard driveis operation. The Volitans SMART utility goes beyond the simple report in Appleis Disk Utility and shows the individual attributes of the drive. The utility then uses an algorithm based on those attributes to anticipate a possible drive failure.

Many other small bugs were fixed.

SMART Utility version 1.0.2 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later. It is priced at US$20.00.
