TMO Talk (0)
4D has announced the availability of the WebSTAR Server Suite V beta for Mac OS X. WebSTAR Server Suite takes advantage of all of OS Xis technology advantages while providing a powerful, secure, and easy to use set of server tools. According to 4D:

4D, Inc., publishers of the 4th Dimension v6.7 RAD/RDBMS Environment and WebSTAR Server Suite, today announced the immediate availability of their new 4D WebSTAR Server Suite V public beta. Now, Mac OS X users can take advantage of a much faster WebSTAR while still enjoying the easiest to administer and most secure Web serving on Mac OS X. Completely redesigned for Mac OS X, 4D WebSTAR Server Suite V is available as a public beta directly off the web at http://www.WebSTAR.com/4dwsv. Macworld attendees can experience a full demonstration of 4D WebSTAR Server Suite V at Booth #458.

"4D WebSTAR Server Suite V is a masterpiece of design ingenuity that provides WebSTAR users serious server power, within an incredibly robust, easy-to-use and secure server system for Mac OS X," said Brendan Coveney, president and CEO, 4D, Inc. "From its self-managed installation process to its default configuration designed especially for tight security, WebSTAR V is still the easiest web server. We even add extra tools to keep servers of all sizes up and online."

The new 4D WebSTAR Server Suite V takes advantage of Mac OS Xis multiprocessor support, preemptive multitasking and faster networking, without sacrificing WebSTARis stellar reputation for ease-of-use and security. Beyond amazing speed increases in the web server itself, an overhaul of the caching sub-system provides even more performance improvements for the entire server suite.

The completely redesigned Administration architecture provides a high level of flexibility with Delegatable Authority, allowing administrative permissions to be individually granted for virtual host administrators. The Admin Server is now separate from the Web Server, to monitor servers and maximize uptime. The new Admin Client is written in 100% Java, giving the Mac OS X look-and-feel, while allowing remote administration from any platform that supports Java.

The Admin Client also now communicates via SSL for more secure administration. Overall Security now takes advantage of reusable realm security settings, and allow/deny security settings.

4D WebSTAR Server Suite Vis web serving security is easy, right out of the box with secure default settings, more flexible access control and authentication. Realm matching is designed to work well with HFS plus volumes, the default for Mac OS X. 4D WebSTAR V now also supports MD5-digest authentication. Configuring SSL with 4D WebSTAR V is easy for secure encrypted traffic.

4D WebSTAR Server Suite V comes with an integrated FTP server, and new integrated WebDAV http file service. Search capabilities are now radically faster with full site indexing, searching and remote crawling. Improved logging features with even more options now help fulfill a wider range of individual needs.

The WebSTAR Server Suite V for Mac OS X public beta is available for free. You can find more information at the 4D Web site, or visit them at MACWORLD booth 458.
