Amazon’s Kindle DX Now Works in 100+ Countries

Amazon on Wednesday announced a new version of its Kindle DX book reader with Global Wireless connectivity, allowing the device to work in more than 100 countries. Selling for US$489, it’s available for pre-order now and will start shipping on Jan. 19.

The original Kindle DX, which debuted last May, is no longer available, although the new version is the same as it in all other aspects: a 9.7-inch display that mimics the look of real paper, storage for up to 3,500 books, a built-in keyboard, wireless downloads via the 3G Amazon Whispernet network, and text-to-speech support. The original Kindle has a 6-inch screen.
