Apple Adds Podcasts App to Apple TV

Apple released tvOS 9.1.1 for the fourth generation Apple TV on Monday and it includes a Podcasts app. Podcast support has been a glaring omission from the latest Apple TV model ever since it shipped last September.

The new Podcasts app syncs via iTunes and iCloud so subscriptions from your iPhone and iPad Podcasts apps will be available on your television, too.

Along with the Podcasts app, tvOS 9.1.1 also includes performance improvements and bug fixes as well as security patches to prevent hackers from using corrupt memory spaces to run arbitrary code on a victim's Apple TV.

The update doesn't include folders for organizing Apple TV apps, Bluetooth keyboard support, and the promised redesigned app switcher; those features are all coming in tvOS 9.2. Apple hasn't said when to expect tvOS 9.2 to drop, but it is in beta now, so hopefully it's coming soon.

You can update your fourth generation Apple TV by going to Settings > System > Software Updates > Update Software. It's free and available now.
