Apple Adds Spock's Vulcan Hand Greeting to Mac, iPhone Emoji

The Vulcan salute, Spock's greeting, the "Live long and proser sign," whatever you call it, it's coming to the iPhone and OS X Yosemite as a new emoji symbol. If you're running the latest public betas of OS X Yosemite, it's tucked away but there, not yet visible in the standard emoji list.

Apple hasn't officially confirmed Spock's hand gesture will be an official emoji, but Emojipedia says it's coming, and Quartz found the symbol in the latest OS X 10.10.3 pubic beta. Since it's there, it seems likely Apple will make it available by the time the official OS updates roll out.

Unfortunately, Leonard Nimoy—who played Mr. Spock in the classic Star Trek series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and several Star Trek movies—passed away recently and won't get to see his gesture immortalized in emoji. His katra, however, can live on in our texts.
