Apple Launches Pre-orders for iPad mini

· by · News

As promised, Apple began accepting pre-order sales for its just announced iPad mini Friday morning. The company introduced the 7.9-inch version of the iPad during a special media event on Tuesday and will begin delivering the tablet to customers on November 2.

The newest addition to the iPad family is 7.2mm thick, weighs 0.68 pounds, includes front and rear-facing digital cameras, offers dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi support, and its multi-touch display offers 1024x768 resolution, just like the iPad 2. Since those pixels are packed into a smaller screen, the overall image quality should look better than the original iPad and iPad 2.

The iPad mini is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities with WiFi only or WiFi plus LTE. The WiFi only models will deliver on November 2, and the WiFi plus LTE models will ship in mid November. Pricing starts at US$329.

Customers that don't want to pre-order can still get their iPad mini on November 2 since they'll be available in stores, too.
