Why the difference in size between over the air and using iTunes?

DocRoss

It’s the difference between the entire OS, and only the pieces that have been updated.

Using iTunes you get the complete software package, OTA is just the incremental update.

Thanks so much!

You’re welcome.

By the way, this is why people suggest that, if your phone has a problem and you suspect that something is corrupted, you reinstall/restore using iTunes. It always reinstalls the whole system (OS) and the standard apps.

In a similar fashion, I always install updates for OS X using the Combo install package as the “delta” updates had problems. Maybe that’s better now. It also means that I only have to download once and can then apply that to several Macs.
