Apple to Accept Some Cracked Screens in iPhone Trade-in Program and Install Screen Protectors

Cracked iPhone 6Apple will begin accepting some iPhones with cracked screens in an expansion tot he company's iPhone trade-in program. Citing unnamed sources, 9to5Mac reported that Apple will offer $50 for an iPhone 5s with a cracked screen or broken cameras and buttons, $200 for an iPhone 6, and $240 for an iPhone 6 Plus.

Prior to this, cracked screens, broken cameras, and broken buttons disqualified customers from trading in their iPhones towards a new one. The company reportedly believes the change will result in more customers buying new iPhones rather than paying for a screen replacement.

Apple is also reportedly bringing in screen-protector installation machines to its Apple Store retail locations in order to offer installation services to customers. Apple began offering the service Thursday.

In the case of a faulty installation, Apple Stores will offer a replacement and an attempt to reinstall the protectors.
