Apple Announces iAd Deal for Japan

· by · News

Apple and Dentsu Group have signed a deal that will bring the iAd in-app advertising program to iOS devices in Japan. The iAd program in Japan will launch in early 2011, and Dentsu group will handle selling and what Apple calls “creative execution” of ads in the country.

iAd is Apple’s own ad development and placement program for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Advertisements delivered in applications through the service are intended to be more interactive and engaging than traditional banner ads.

“After an incredibly successful launch in the U.S. where we’ve already doubled the number of brands on the network, we’re excited to bring iAd to Japan,” commented Andy Miller, Apple vice president of iAd. “Dentsu is one of the world’s most prestigious advertising agencies, making them an ideal partner for iAds in Japan.”

Apple extended its iAd delivery program beyond the U.S. earlier this month, but so far only iPhone and iPod touch owners running iOS 4 can see the content. Once iOS 4.2 ships this month, however, iPad owners can view iAd advertisements as well.
