Apple CEO: iPad Launch Weekend Broke Records

Apple CEO Tim Cook said on Monday that the first weekend of third generation iPad sales broke company records, although he didn’t share any numbers. Mr. Cook dropped that tidbit during a special conference call where the company announced a stock dividend and repurchase program.

“We had a record weekend,” Mr. Cook said in reference to the new iPad launch, “and we’re thrilled.”

The third generation iPad hit store shelves on Friday, March 16. Some Apple Stores saw long lines ahead of the launch, and some customers camped out for days to be among the first to get the new iPad.

Apple hasn’t released figures yet showing how many iPads were sold on launch weekend, but with Mr. Cook saying the company broke records again, there’s a good chance we’ll see some solid numbers soon.
