Apple Highlights iPod touch in New Commercial

| News

Apple hasn’t forgotten about the iPod touch, and wants to make sure consumers don’t forget about it, either, thanks to its new “Share the Fun” commercial. The ad hit TV screens over the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday weekend, and shows off the media player’s features along with iOS 5.

“Share the Fun” shows off features such as music playback, FaceTime video chats, iMessage, and Game Center. While those features are also available on the iPhone and iPad, Apple’s new commercial shows off the iPod touch as a pocket-size device for teens and young adults.

You can view “Share the Fun” at Apple’s YouTube webpage.

Yeah, I’m feeling older now…

I know a couple 13-14 yr olds and one 20-something year old (who is a bit like a teenager) who constantly carry around their iPod touches.  So Apple’s probably targeted the right demographic with this ad. It’s also a great product for those who don’t want to pay the $15+/mo for a data plan.

The only thing disappointing is that, as far as I know, this is still last year’s hardware. Isn’t it?

As far as targeting kids with the iPod Touch, I’m 50 and I carry my iPT all the time. I have it instead of an iPhone. It does most of what I want*, but without a cell contract.  Literally I start the day checking it for the time before I get up (lots easier than putting on my glasses and sitting up to see the clock across the room). I carry it at work and when I’m out and about for messaging, e-mail, and for quick web searches. I use it in the evenings when I’m bumping around the house. I pull it out any time I need a calculator, a stopwatch, to convert units, to hit Wikipedia or CBS News, or if I just need a flashlight. Then I end the day playing a game or two while I’m in bed before I fall asleep. It gets charged every day or two, not because the battery is going bad but because I use it that much. I keep telling my wife it’s the single most useful thing I’ve bought in at leat five years, possible ten.

*webjprgm: yes it’s still last years hardware. The camera could be a lot better. Also it’s missing some sensors that the iPhone has. With these omissions I can’t run some software that I’d really like to which is annoying. OTOH as mentioned above i use it continulously as it is.
