Apple Hires Away Intel Legal Head

Intel's senior vice president and general counsel, Bruce Sewell, is joining Apple as General Counsel and senior vice president of Legal and Government Affairs. Apple announced Mr. Sewell is coming on board only a day after Intel announced he was leaving.

Apple's current General Counsel and senior vice president of Legal and Government Affairs, Daniel Cooperman, is retiring at the end of September. Mr. Sewell is coming on as his replacement.

"We are thrilled to have Bruce join our executive team, and wish Dan a very happy retirement," commented Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

Mr. Sewell joined Intel in 1995 as a senior attorney, and in 2001 was promoted to vice president and deputy general counsel.

Apple's announcement comes only a day after Intel announced that Mr. Sewell and Pat Gelsinger, manager of the company's Digital Enterprise Group, were leaving and that the company is reorganizing its internal structure. Intel said both were leaving "to pursue other opportunities."

Mr. Jobs added "With Bruce's extensive experience in litigation, securities and intellectual property, we expect this to be a seamless transition."
