Apple Investigating In-App Purchase Thieving Scheme

Apple acknowledged a report on Friday that a Russian developer had developed a way to bypass Apple’s in-app purchase mechanism in iOS apps. The company issued a statement to The Loop saying that it was investigating the issue.

Apple Investigating

“The security of the App Store is incredibly important to us and the developer community,” an Apple spokesperson said. “We take reports of fraudulent activity very seriously and we are investigating.”

Russian developer “ZonD8o” announced the scheme on Friday that allows users to send their in-app purchase to a proxy server he operates. By doing so, thieves can steal those purchases and simultaneously give some private information (for instance, your GUID code and location) to that developer.
