Apple Looking for Engineer to Develop “Revolutionary” Feature for Mac OS X

TMO Talk (19)

Apple is promising that Mac OS X 10.7 will contain a new feature the company calls “revolutionary” in a job posting on the Apple Web site. According to the posting, this unspecified feature, “has never been done before and will truly amaze everyone,” and the company used the word “revolutionary” to describe the feature three times.

The posting begins, “Are you looking to help create something totally new? Something that has never been done before and will truly amaze everyone? Are you excited by the prospect that what you helped create would be used every day by millions of Apple customers? Then come and work on with the Mac OS X software engineering team to help build a new and revolutionary feature for Mac OS X.”

There are no details being offered on just what this new feature will be, but Apple said that it will be “part of the very foundations of Mac OS X.” The listing also said that an “exceptional candidate” will have extensive experience with the HTTP protocol, which strongly suggests that the new feature will involve the Web, or perhaps even Apple’s ever-expanding Cloud Computing projects.

Adding to that, the company also noted that exceptional candidates, “will have participated in or lead the architecture of large web scale systems.”

Additional Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Mac OS X platform development experience
  • Knowledge of Objective-C
  • UNIX development experience
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent; 5+ years experience

Apple has not officially announced Mac OS X 10.7, and there was no mention of the next generation Mac OS X during June’s World Wide Developer Conference. It would appear, however, that rumors of the OS’s death have been slightly premature, that is if the prospect of introducing a “revolutionary” feature that “will be used every day by millions of Apple customers” means anything.

If you apply for the position, good luck, and don’t forget to tell us what you’re working on.

Thanks to AppleInsider for the heads up on the job posting.

This is exciting!

Better than exciting, it’s revolutionary!

Bosco - you’re on !!

A guess - browsing and multimedia without Mac OS X booted up, reminiscent of simpler devices.

Seriously though, just what does Apple do in that humongous data center in North Carolina?  You wonder if they are related?

Something to do with the cloud I would imagine, maybe the code name is Skynet smile

Seriously, it probably is cloud related.

The “data center” in North Carolina is a front. The facility will actually process Soylent Green.

I may be the only regular here on MacObserver who has actually eaten soylent green.

My wife was an extra in the movie. No she wasn’t “furniture”, but one of the hungry citizens in the food riot. She is in a number of frames, they were directed to mill around a lot, but she is hard to spot without going frame to frame. We don’t have a copy of the movie, I guess we should get one, but you can see here in this clip at YouTube.

At minute 1:37 about 1/3 from the left side coming out of the store following the complaining woman.  She is the petite brunet wearing a greenish colored dress and going left to right after coming out of the door. She has a gauze mask over her mouth.

Also at minute 3:16 going through the plate glass window, the woman in the center of the screen on top of the pile of people. Only stuntmen were supposed to go through the window, but she got caught up in the press.

Too bad I can’t take screen shots of movies purchased from the iTunes Store or I would buy a copy from there and put up some JPGs highlighting her.

Anyway getting back to eating soylent green. She brought some of it home, also sone of the soylent yellow and soylent bread. The solent green and yellow were just crackers dyed, or is that “died,” with food coloring.

Here’s the only revolution that I’m looking for in the next version of OS X:

1) Buy CocoaTech’s Pathfinder (or similar technology)
2) Make it the Finder in Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion” (or whatever they call it).

Cool story! A rare movie that seems to improve with age too.

Sir Harry, that is definitely the coolest thing I’ve read today. I’m going to have to rent that movie again just to see the shenanigans.

Let’s hope so! LOL
