Apple Product Announcement Set for Today

TMO Talk (7)

Apple will be hosting a special media event at 10AM pacific time at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco today, January 27. The Mac and iPhone maker is hinting that it will introduce a new product during the presentation, and so far the rumors point to a tablet form factor device.

The media invitations Apple distributed included the tag line "Come see our latest creation," leading everyone to believe a new product announcement would be the focus of the event.

Rumors and alleged leaks from Apple suggest the company has been working on a tablet device that runs the iPhone OS, sports a 10-inch multi-touch display, includes a front-facing camera for video chats, supports Wi-Fi and 3G wireless networks, and more.

Photos of a glass surface The Mac Observer obtained seem to support the idea that the tablet will include a 10-inch display, and the evening before the event McGraw Hill CEO, Terry McGraw, apparently confirmed Apple's tablet is on the way, too.

In a CNBC interview on January 26, Mr. McGraw was asked if textbooks from his company would be available for "this new tablet that's coming out. [Is that] a done deal?"

Mr. McGraw replied, "Yeah, it's very exciting. They'll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. The tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system, and so it will be transferable."

TMO will be covering Apple's Wednesday announcements, so be sure to check back for the latest news.

My predictions:
* Nickname will soon be “The PornPad”.
* $599 price point.
* Discussion afterward will be 50% the device, 10% other things announced, and 40% Steve Jobs’ health/appearance.

I’m psyched
At 10am Apple will announce iLife ‘10
Oh yeah and a bunch of other things.

Anybody notice that there isn’t a “we’ll be back soon” sticky-note announcement on the online Apple Store webpage?  Usually that indicates new products with immediate availability right after an announcement.  I guess the “iTablet” or whatever will not be immediately available; or has this pattern been changed in recent product-announcement cycles and I just didn’t notice?

Yes, I have been checking it every so often this morning. Maybe they will pull the page when the presentation begins

Hmmm, still no change to the Apple Store webpage
