| Product News

Apple updated iTunes to version 9.0.1, a maintenance release for the new iTunes 9 that includes what Apple characterized as "important bug fixes." Most of the bug fixes deal with performance and interface issues.

The full list of changes from Apple's patch notes:

  • Resolves issues browsing the iTunes Store.
  • Addresses a performance issue where iTunes may become unresponsive.
  • Fixes a problem where iTunes may unexpectedly quit.
  • Fixes a problem syncing Podcasts in playlists to iPod or iPhone.
  • Fixes a problem sorting albums with multiple discs.
  • Addresses an issue with the Zoom button not switching to Mini Player.
  • Improves application syncing for iPod touch and iPhone.
  • Genius is now automatically updated to show Genius Mixes.

The update is a 89.8MB download through Software Update in Snow Leopard. Windows users can download the update through the Apple Updater application, which is accessed in the Help menu of iTunes.

Apple's Downloads Web page also offers standalone download links for Windows (88.8MB) and Mac OS X (82.95MB).

If it really fixes the freezing issue, that would rock. I can’t do anything without waiting anywhere from 30 seconds to two minutes for iTunes to become responsive again. I click a song title? That is one minute of waiting. Change source? Two minutes. Get info? At least 30 seconds.

It’s no wonder people complain about iTunes - it gets updated almost every other day ... Just give us a release that works and leave it for a while.

My iTunes 8.2.1’s humming along nicely…

This release fixed an issue I had on my iPhone 3GS with podcast ordering. It doesn’t fix an issue with smartlist selection of podcast episodes. The smartlist has the correct episodes in iTunes, but not on the iPhone. I have it pick the latest 3 episodes in the smartlist. On the iPhone, I get the 1st 3 episodes of the 10 recent I have synced.

Has anyone tried to delete and completely remove an application in iTunes that is on your iPod Touch?

I wish I had my 8.2.1 back also.

I am not going to get in a hurry upgrading this time.

Ok, this is great, but I am an IT professional who needs the messaging feature to come with additional features; when are they going to add the ability to add/modify the ring tones?  I have only had the phone for 3 weeks and I am afraid I will have to find a work-around for this problem.  I am also dismayed that this has been a problem for so long for the internet community and the only option on the web is jailbreaking.

If you have not had problems then you do not have any music or you do not use it. I have 400GB of music and it is a horrible program.

iTunes 9 download is bad. It hijacked my computer for 10 hours while it “processed” music. No explanation, no opt out, no nothing. Just a freaking processing bar after I installed and opened. Nothing I could do about it. I know 10 hours is because of 400GB of music, but with a Gig I would have gotten the bar.
