Apple Rolls Out 27-inch Cinema Display

| Product News

Apple’s new 27-inch Cinema Display finally began shipping on Friday. The company introduced the LED backlit display at the end of July with a promise to ship in September.

Apple’s 27-inch Cinema Display

The 27-inch Cinema Display includes a 16:9 aspect ratio with 2560 x 1440 resolution, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, built-in iSight and stereo speakers, built-in three port USB 2.0 hub, Mini DisplayPort video and audio connector, and a built-in MagSafe charger connector for Apple’s laptops. The display also uses in-plane switching technology for a 178 degree viewing angle, and ambient light sensor like the company’s portable devices.

The new display replaces the now discontinued 24- and 30-inch Cinema Displays. Apple’s 27-inch Cinema Display is priced at US$999 and is showing a one to two week ship time.

Don’t think I’ll be replacing my 30inch cinema display any time soon. When will Apple end it’s fascination with glossy displays ?

I’m disappointed with the whole glossy display thing, too. As much as I’d love to stick with Apple’s displays, when my 23-inch Cinema Display needs to be replaced I’ll be going with an HP DreamColor.

Sounds like a good deal! 20 years ago I paid $600 for a 20 GB external hard drive, SCSI at that. Earlier this year I bought a 2 TB for $130

All the iSights in MacBooks, iMacs, and Displays are still standard def. while the iPhone and iPod Touch get 720p cameras. Hello? Apple, why do you give us these nice, high quality HD displays and not the high def. cameras for them? Enough with the limited resolution. Bump the iSight up to high def., and not just 720p either. There’s no reason to not go all the way to 1080p, and if space is a constraint, then only the MacBooks might have to settle for 720p. I’m thinking that waiting for a 1080p iSight is yet another reason for me to hold off on the iMac purchase for another revision or three…

I am saddened by the aspect ratio of 16:9.  As a photographer, I shoot roughly a third of my images in portrait mode.  Could we please have a 1:1 aspect ratio high quality display please???

The ATI cards just are not cutting it. They have compatibility issues with high end software as well as the new emerging gaming market. And feeding this display at native res for gaming with an ATI card is a joke.

The insistence from Apple in only offering either bargain basement nvidia or super high-end must end. You can either get the pathetic low-end card or the insanely overpriced Quadro. Let’s get the mainstream line up from nVIDIA in there!
