Apple Set to Buy Mobile Ad Company

· by · News

Apple looks to be set to jump into the mobile advertising market if reports that it is planning to buy Quattro Wireless prove to be true. Apparently Apple will shell out some US$275 million for the company, and could make an announcement as early as Tuesday, according to AllThingsD.

Quattro Wireless specializes in serving up ads on smartphones, just like AdMob, the company that Google recently purchased.

Should Apple and Quattro Wireless officially announce a deal, Apple would be in a position to control many of the ads that appear in iPhone and iPod touch applications. Such a deal would likely also fuel rumors that Apple is planning on handling in-app and in-show ads in its fabeled tablet computer.

Apple and Quattro Wireless haven't commented on the buyout reports.
