Apple Shrinks URLs in Ping Tweets

· by · News

Along with adding Ping support to the iPad on Saturday, Apple began shortening the URLs in Ping posts that appear on Twitter. Previously, the URLs in Ping to Twitter posts filled a substantial portion of the 140 character tweet limit.

Ping goes short on Twitter

When Apple first introduced Twitter integration to Ping earlier this week, the links to songs and albums posted as tweets included the full itunes.apple.com URL along with an #iTunes hash tag. As of Saturday, however, Apple began using Twitter’s own t.co URL shortening service, which cut down on the number of Ping tweets getting truncated.

Apple also added Ping support to the iPad, giving iTunes Store shoppers yet another way to post comments to the social networking service. Ping is now available on the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and in iTunes on Macs and PCs.

Curious they’re not using the ‘iTun.es’ domain they currently own. Perhaps this is a temporary solution.
