Apple to Host iPhone 5 Event at Company Headquarters

Apple’s rumored iPhone 5 unveiling is said to be coming on October 4, and now it appears that event will be hosted at the company’s Cuptertino campus instead of San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center. Unnamed sources familiar with Apple’s plans tipped off AllThingsD, but didn’t say why the event will be at the company’s headquarters instead of a larger venue.

Word surfaced last week that the iPhone 5 launch event would happen at the beginning of October, and that CEO Tim Cook would be showing off the new iPhone model.

Apple hasn’t revealed any iPhone 5 features yet, but that hasn’t stopped rumors or speculation. Based on the current batch of rumors, the next iPhone could have a bigger screen, or maybe the same size screen, an 8 megapixel camera, the same body design as the iPhone 4, or maybe a redesigned body, an A5 processor like the iPad 2, NFC support for digital wallet services, and world phone support.

Apple has used it’s own auditorium for launch events in the past, but has favored larger venues for iPhone-related announcements.

The company hasn’t released any details about the upcoming iPhone model yet, nor has it sent out invitations to a media launch event yet.
