Apple TV 3.0.2 Update Offers Minor Refinements

TMO Talk (4)

Apple on Thursday released version 3.0.2 of its Apple TV firmware, an update that offers minor user interface tweaks to increase text readability, according to AppleInsider and other web sites. The update is also apparently tied to this week’s release of Aperture 3.0, given the changes in that application’s image sharing over a local network.

In addition, AppleInsider reported that some of its readers said “their Apple TV has stopped experiencing problems related to switching its HDMI output cable” since applying the update. More information was not available on Apple’s support site, which as of this writing lists version 3.0.1 on the Apple TV page.

Anyone get the feeling that some of these updates are setting the groundwork for features that the iPad can tie into, that weren’t mentioned in the keynote?

Not really, seems like it gives Aperture 3.0 support and a few other fixes that were added because they weren’t big enough to justify their own release.  I like the way you think though, the AppleTV is nice but it still feels like it’s missing some features and pizzaz to make it a worthwhile product.

Perhaps I’m giving Apple too much credit, but I feel like the AppleTV hasn’t been axed by Steve because it’ll be filling some need that they haven’t developed yet. I’m seeing a lot of their cloud computing, and wireless efforts leading to an idea where the iPad becomes the face of an Apple network of things in your house; the devices on desks (Macs and Time Capsules) and in cabinets (AppleTV) containing and serving your stuff, while the iPad lets you control and consume the stuff.

FlipFriddle - I think you may have a point.  I’ve actually thought the same thing. wink I think that’s the whole point of how they operate as a company, their services, and products… it’s all related, somehow and eventually.
