Apple TV 4.1 Update Fixes Security Issues

Apple TV 4.1, released on Monday, included some security fixes along with support for iOS 4.2 AirPlay video and audio streaming.

The update fixed an issue with FreeType where maliciously crafted fonts could let an attacker run arbitrary code on the device, and also patched several libpng-related issues that could lead to arbitray code execution as well.

Apple TV Gets security update

Apple released Apple TV 4.1 Monday morning for the second generation Apple TV. The update added support for iOS 4.2 and streaming video and audio content via AirPlay.

To install the update, go to Settings > General > About on your second generation Apple TV. The update is free, but isn’t available for the original Apple TV.
