Apple Working on MacBook Air Display Fix

| News

It looks like some customers that bought Apple’s newest MacBook Air are experiencing display issues, but an internal Apple memo claims a fix is on the way.

The problems users are experiencing include display flickering or continually fading from bright to dark when the computer wakes up. The fix — until Apple releases a software update — is to close the MacBook Air lid, wait for the computer to sleep, then open the lid again.

Flickering display fix is on the way

The internal memo obtained by Boy Genius Report said that Apple Store employees should tell customers complaining about the display issues that the problem has been isolated and a fix is on the way in the form of a future software update.

While Apple’s stance may not please MacBook Air owners experiencing the problem now, it looks like the issue can be addressed with a software fix instead of hardware replacements.

I just got a 13 inch MBA. Some things feel a little glitchy - I have had to restart it after sleep a couple of times. I haven’t done any photo editing, and I know that is going to be slow. And I MISS THE BACKLIT KEYBOARD more than I expected.

But - man! - I love this machine. A restart is sooo fast. App launching, window opening, doc retrieval, almost instantaneous.

Then - it is such a pleasure to carry, hold and use. Yum.

Battery life is very good, clearly better than my old MB Pro, but I travel a lot and what I really want is the almost eternal batter of an iPad… I’ll have to wait for the 2013 upgrade for that…

But Steve Jobs is right: this is the future of laptops. I would feel like I was downgrading significantly to go back to my MBP.

Any why wasn’t something this basic caught in testing?

Fortunately it can be fixed with a simple update, BUT it doesn’t helped the “rushed” feeling we’ve gotten from Apple products this year.
