The Shenzhen store could be key for Apple, according to M.I.C. Gadget since the area is the primary avenue for grey market products coming into the country. By offering its own official retail location, Apple may be able to stem some of the flow of its products that find their way into China outside of legit distribution channels.

Apple currently has six retail locations open in China. The company had hoped at one point to have 25 stores in the country by the end of 2012, but has fallen short of that goal.
