In a post on Twitter, Mr. Bloom said,

Huge day: On Friday, AT&T set a new single-day record for its iPad sales and activations.

That matches Apple CEO Tim Cook’s comments during a Monday morning conference call where the company announced a new share dividend and stock buyback program.

“We had a record weekend, and we’re thrilled,” Mr. Cook said.

Apple began selling the third generation iPad in stores on Friday, March 16. Several Apple Stores had long lines ahead of the launch, and in some locations shoppers camped out overnight to be at the front of the line.

So far Apple and AT&T haven’t announced official launch weekend sales figures for the new iPad model.
