BBC to Launch News and Sports Apps for iPhone

· by · News

The BBC looks to be ramping up its mobile content delivery plans now that it is working on iPhone and iPod touch apps for its news and sports content. The apps will roll out over the next few months, and the BBC plans to add Google Android and BlackBerry versions of the apps later on, according to the BBC.

The news app will show written, video and audio content from the BBC News Web site, and should be available some time in April. The sports-related app should roll out in June ahead of the World Cup, and will include content from the BBC Sports Web site and 5 Live radio.

The new BBC news and sports apps will be free and available for download at Apple's iTunes-based App Store. Since they will provide content that subscribers have paid for they apps will most likely be available only to U.K. residents.
