Beatles “Love” Album & Documentary Available for iTunes Pre-order

| News

The soundtrack and documentary for The Beatles Cirque du Soleil show Love is now available for pre-order on the iTunes Store. Apple announced the latest Beatles addition to iTunes Tuesday in an e-mail to iTunes update subscribers.

Love is a show developed by the famous Cirque du Soleil troupe based around the music, story, and events of The Beatles throughout their career as a band. It opened in 2006 at The Mirage in Las Vegas with the blessing of the surviving Beatles (Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr) and the heirs of George Harrison and John Lennon.

The music was produced by George Martin and Giles Martin (his son), and the soundtrack from the show (simply called Love) includes new arrangements and other changes to 29 songs from The Beatles, including two bonus tracks iTunes lists as being exclusive to this version (“Fool on the Hill” and “Girl”).

The accompanying documentary is called All Together Now, tells the story of how the production began with a friendship between George Harrison and Cirque founder Guy Laliberté, and how Messrs. Starr and McCartney, Yoko Ono, and Olivia Harrison “pushed the vision forward” after George Harrison died.

It also includes interviews, rehearsal footage, and shots from performances of the show, according to the description.

The Love soundtrack is priced at US$12.99, and includes 29 tracks. All Together Now is priced at $9.99. Apple hasn’t said when the titles would be delivered, only announcing the pre-order offer.

I purchased this set in Las Vegas at the Love show. Beatles fans should note that this soundtrack - while created from original Beatles tracks - includes remixes and alternate takes of classic tracks not available anywhere else; some very interesting. A definite “must” for Beatles collectors and music fans.

But if you already own the “Love” CD (and have imported it to iTunes), is there anything new to this collection other than the 2 bonus (exclusive to iTunes) tracks, “The Fool On the Hill” and “Girl”?
