Parts one and two are video, parts three and four are blog posts. It’s really interesting to see behind the scenes and watch the app develop from the start, as Jared outlines his approach to RSS and how he is building Unread to work for him.
I know a lot of developers start this way, building a tool for themselves and then sharing it with others in case it’s useful, but I never get to see most of those folks talk about it in detail. Jared starts at the top, considering what he wants the app to do and then the best way to get there.
If you have the time (each video is half an hour), I suggest checking this out if you’ve ever been curious about how an app comes to be. You don’t have to be a developer to follow along since there’s no coding happening here, but if you have an idea for an app, this is a good way to see how it evolves from “I have this idea” into reality, and to see how much has to happen before a single line of code is written.
Jared has stated this is an ongoing series, so expect to see more from him in the future.
