Bluetooth 3.0 Formally Adopted

The Bluetooth SIG this week formally adopted version 3.0 of the short-range wireless technology, promising data transfer speeds up to 24 Mbps and enhanced power control that should lead to better power savings in mobile devices. Its adoption could lead to easier synchronization of music and video libraries between computers and such devices as iPods and iPhones.

Michael Foley, Bluetooth SIG's executive director, said in a press release: "Like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights, this latest version was 'born to go fast.'" Like previous versions of the technology, Bluetooth 3.0 offers backwards compatibility and the Simple Secure Pairing and built-in, automatic security found in version 2.1.
