CES: Nike+ SportWatch GPS Powered by TomTom Debuts

| News

Nike and TomTom jointly unveiled on Thursday the Nike+ SportWatch GPS Powered by TomTom. Building on the technology launched in 2006 with the introduction of the Nike+ Sport Kit for iPad nano, this new watch captures run data and plugs into the USB port on any Mac or PC so information can be uploaded to the nikeplus.com web site.

The Nike+ SportWatch GPS features what the companies call a Tap Screen for setting laps and activating the backlight. The watch shows runners their time, distance, pace, and calories burned via a customizable layout, along with recognitions for personal records, run reminders that appear after five days if a run hasn’t been logged, and post-run acknowledgement and encouragement.

Nike and TomTom are showing off the new product during this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Retail store and online sales availability in the US and UK start on April 1, with broader distribution scheduled for July 1. Pricing was not announced.
