Microsoft will opening some of its first Microsoft-branded retail stores next to or near Apple Stores, according Microsoft COO Kevin Turner. Mr. Turner made the comments at its Worldwide Partner Conference, according to people tweeting from the speech.
Microsoft then issued a statement to Wired saying, "As we progress on our retail strategy there will be scenarios where we have stores in proximity to Apple. We are on track to open stores in the Fall timeframe. Beyond that we have no additional details to share."
At the Conference, Mr. Turner said that the stores would not mimic Apple's design aesthetic, but will rather "innovate" its way into the retail space.
